The Summer We Started Hosting Events
Share
On Saturday, September 6th the House of Culture: Social Club will be hosting a free Block Party on Columbus Avenue.
How did we get here?
Through its many lives House of Culture's mission has remained and consistently been accomplished; bringing unique outfits and style to Boston in an environment of culture and art.
In 2005, House of Culture relocated to Columbus Avenue in Boston's South End, where it has remained since. In past years Columbus Ave was home to vibrant events like the Jazz Festival. We would look forward to that annual event, seeing the same glowing faces year after year and the vibrant movement of Jazz and dancing in the street. The absence of the Jazz Festival is felt.
At the same time we have read the comments of people having a hard time meeting new people in Boston and knowing where to go to socialize. A few tiktoks later I decided to host a Black Girls in Boston Meet Up. I hoped for the best and threw up on RSVP link. The first meet up got over 150 RSVPs. So we hosted another one and another, hosting 1 each month this summer.
Separately I have had the idea for a block party since last September.
Why a Block Party?
At House of Culture we pride ourselves on our service and the relationships we have built with our customers over the 3 decades we have been in business. Patrick often offers advice to young and upcoming entrepreneurs in the city. Zoë, our Creative and Digital Director, is strongly committed to civic engagement. We are committed to our community and to share in the idea that Boston is a home for everyone.
As a small business rooted in the heart of Boston's South End neighborhood, we understand firsthand the significance of community support and collaboration. We believe in the power of local entrepreneurship to drive positive change and economic growth within our neighborhoods. Our relocation to the South End in 2005 has allowed us to serve a diverse array of customers, fostering connections with residents, tourists, and students alike. Ultimately, our business is deeply intertwined with the people we serve. We believe that business is personal, and our relationships with our community members are at the heart of everything we do.
In our conversations both in person and online we have found that many people are seeking community and celebration. We are hosting the Community Block Party to honor our South End community; whether you have lived in the neighborhood your entire life, just moved into your college apartment, have shopped with us for years, or found us on social media. Although there are many events throughout the city, the South End has had a decline in free public events over the years. House of Culture is here to fill that void.
In lieu of vendors we ask that you support South End small businesses!
